A photo-etched set in 1:35 scale from E.T. Model aimed at the 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun and the matching ammunition box as they are used on armored vehicles of the Chinese army. The package holds flat metal parts that are cut out, folded and glued into their final shape. It is not a kit of a vehicle and not a finished model of the weapon.
A vehicle weapon sits on the turret in full view, and it is exactly on it that you see most clearly where plastic runs into its limits. The perforations, the thin frames of the mount, the sights and the walls of the ammunition box are simplified and thickened in a molded part. Photo-etched sheet shows these sections in a real thickness, so the weapon is visually lightened and the model gains its sense of scale. The set also suits a diorama, where the box serves as a small piece of equipment set beside the vehicle.
Lay the parts out on a light-colored surface first and go through the order of assembly dry. Build the box up in stages: once one wall is folded, let the glue harden and only then carry on, otherwise the structure will twist. Make the folds along the marked score lines. Degrease the metal with alcohol, glue it with small drops of cyanoacrylate and spray a base coat meant for metal before painting. The machine gun comes off best in a dark steel shade with light drybrushing along the edges, while the box will take a different, more matte tone, so that it stands apart from the weapon.
