A decal sheet in 1:35 scale with Hungarian markings for the self-propelled 9K31 Strela-1 antiaircraft missile system, known in Western terminology as the SA-9 Gaskin. It is not a kit: the sheet is an accessory for a model you buy separately. It is made by the Hungarian brand HAD models, and the decals are wet, waterslide, on a clear carrier film.
The Strela-1 is a self-propelled short-range air defense system built on a wheeled amphibious chassis derived from the BRDM-2 reconnaissance vehicle. It carries a launcher with guided missiles and is intended to protect ground units against low-flying targets. The system was used by a number of Warsaw Pact armies including the Hungarian one, and that is the subject of this sheet.
Apply them over a smooth gloss base, as air would be trapped under the film on the typically matte green camouflage. Cut the design out close to the edge, soak it in lukewarm water and let it release from the paper. Settle it on the dampened place, nudge it into position with a brush and soak the water up. The body of this type of vehicle has a great many edges and sloping surfaces, so it pays to use a decal softener and, once it has dried, to nick the design lightly on an edge with the tip of a scalpel so that it seats. Finally go over the model with a matte varnish.
A decal sheet is an accessory for a model. The model, paints and varnishes are not included in the package.
