This sheet from ETA diorama is printed paper for scenes in 1:35 scale. It holds no plastic, no resin and no decals. Its point lies in the small things that cannot be painted by hand at this scale: papers, forms and imaging scans of the kind that belong in a sick bay, a treatment room, a laboratory or a staff office. Details like these are precisely what separates a nicely built model from a scene the viewer believes.
The motifs on this sheet are small, so take a new blade to them and cut on a smooth mat along a metal rule. Set the cut-out pieces aside on a piece of light paper, so that they do not get lost. Handle them with tweezers with fine points and apply the glue with a toothpick or the tip of a cocktail stick – a drop from the tube is too large for a part the size of a fingernail. On vertical surfaces, for example on a light box or on a notice board, a matte glue for paper suits well; for loose papers a spot of PVA glue is enough.
Papers never lie neatly. Sheets scattered on a desk, one fallen on the floor, a bundle held by a clip, a corner folded over the edge of a board – all of that is free and it gives a scene movement. Imaging scans stand out if you glue them onto a light backing or onto thin translucent plastic and place them against a light wall. Bending the paper slightly over the blunt tip of tweezers removes the severe flatness. At the end unify the surface with matte clear coat and, if you like, add a hint of dirt with dry pastel. In combination with figures of doctors, of the wounded or of staff personnel, you get a setting that is legible at first glance.
