This is a masking accessory, not a kit. On the wheels of the Ford GPA amphibious vehicle in 1:35 scale the set marks out the border between tire and rim, so the transition between the shades need not be lined freehand. The cut matches the wheels of the Tamiya kit — with wheel masks the shape belongs to a particular molding, so check the match beforehand.
Against tracked vehicles the situation is entirely different. The Ford GPA has only four wheels, but each of them is visible from every side and stands apart to the eye — the tire is the dominant element here, not a small detail in a row. The vehicle also has a boat-shaped hull, so the wheels are not sunk between heavy fenders or hidden behind skirts, and their outline reads against the background. If the model carries a spare wheel, a fifth piece is added, usually mounted conspicuously and often right in the viewer's line of sight. The sidewall of the tire with its pronounced off-road tread is the hardest spot at the same time: the edge between rubber and rim has to be continuous all the way around, because on a circular shape every unevenness comes back into view again and again.
On a tracked vehicle a small overrun is lost among the other wheels; on a four-wheeler it is not. A lining brush on a small rim lays down a thicker coat of paint that shifts the edge inwards optically, and on the second stroke the difference in thickness shows as a ripple. A mask holds the border the same on every wheel and the surface of both tire and rim stays sprayed, and so uniform. Paint the wheels separately, before you seat them on the axles.
