About product

A barrel 150 mm StuH 43 for the Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär in 1:35 - Aber

A turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. It matches the short howitzer of 150 mm designated the StuH 43, which the German Sturmpanzer IV, nicknamed the Brummbär, carried. It is not a model of a vehicle but a detail accessory: the metal part replaces the plastic barrel and gives it an exact cylindrical shape, a sharp edge and a hollow muzzle.

The real subject

The Sturmpanzer IV was a German heavy assault armored vehicle built on the chassis of the Panzer IV tank. Into an angular armored superstructure it received the short 150 mm StuH 43 howitzer with a barrel length of around twelve calibers, meant to destroy fortifications, buildings and resistance in built-up areas by direct fire. The vehicle came about in response to experience from fighting in cities and it was committed on the Eastern and the Western Front as well as in Italy. It was produced in several production series, which differed in the superstructure, the mounting of the weapon and details of the hull.

Building and painting tips

Cut off the plastic barrel at the root, clean out the opening in the mantlet or the shield and push the metal part home. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and roughen the mating surfaces lightly; it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay a base coat meant for metals onto the metal parts, or the paint will hold poorly. The hollow muzzle stands out when you darken it lightly from inside with a soot shade. A short barrel of a large caliber is very visible on a model from the front, so it pays to spend time on seating it exactly in the cutout of the superstructure and on cleaning up the surrounding gap.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers of German vehicles of the Second World War in 1:35 scale
  • Builders of assault guns on the Panzer IV chassis
  • More experienced modelers working with metal accessories
  • Collectors who upgrade plastic kits

This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No, it is a detail accessory: a turned metal barrel as a replacement for the plastic part.

The short German howitzer of 150 mm designated the StuH 43, which the Sturmpanzer IV carried.

The name does not give a particular production series. If you are building an early or conversely a late version, compare the shape of the barrel with the manufacturer's instructions.

With cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); degrease the surfaces and roughen them lightly.
