Aber 1:35 310 mm Sprenggranate 4861 high-explosive shell for the K5(E) Leopold is a set of turned metal ammunition from the Polish maker Aber for models of the German K5(E) railway gun in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of turned metal ammunition in 1:35 scale, not a standalone model. It holds a 310 mm high-explosive fragmentation shell of the Sprenggranate 4861 type for the German K5(E) railway gun, nicknamed Leopold. The characteristic slender projectile with its stabilizing fins is perfectly symmetrical thanks to turning — and on a shape as striking as this, the parting seam of a plastic part would give the substitute away at once.
The K5(E) railway gun originally fired from a rifled 280 mm barrel. Toward the end of the war a version with a barrel without rifling was also built, from which a slender arrow projectile of larger outside diameter was fired, stabilized by fins. The aim was to reach a markedly longer range than with a classic shell. Ammunition of this type is among the technically most interesting chapters in the development of long-range artillery.
Wash the metal, degrease it and lay down a primer. Paint the fins and the thin edges in thin coats so that their profile does not disappear. You can display the projectile effectively beside the model on a rack or on the loading trolley; glue the metal part with cyanoacrylate glue and reckon with its weight. A dark wash and light wear on the edges will add contrast.
This is a detail accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
