Aber 1:35 – a turned single-piece 88 mm L/56 barrel for the German Flak 18 and Flak 37 guns is an accurate metal replacement for the plastic part.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal detail set, not a gun kit. It holds a turned 88 mm barrel 56 calibers long in the single-piece form, that is without a division into replaceable sections. The barrel has a drilled muzzle, an accurate profile and a smooth surface with none of the mold seam that a plastic part usually carries along its whole length. It is made by the Polish company Aber, known for turned metal barrels and photo-etched detail for military models in 1:35 scale.
The German 88 mm gun began as an anti-aircraft weapon and over the course of the Second World War it became a general-purpose artillery piece used against armored vehicles too. The earliest production version, the Flak 18, had a barrel made as a single piece; later versions moved to a sectional barrel with replaceable pieces for easier maintenance. In the field, however, the two solutions were mixed, and single-piece barrels turned up on the carriages of later versions as well, which gives the modeler more freedom in choosing a subject. The weapon was towed on a two-axle chassis and lowered onto a cruciform platform in the firing position.
Degrease the metal with alcohol or dish soap before gluing. Use cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy to fix it. A smooth single-piece barrel has no joints at all, which makes the quality of the spraying all the more visible – so lay the paint on thinly and evenly, ideally with an airbrush over a primer for metal surfaces. Pick out the muzzle with a dark pigment and leave the rest of the barrel fairly clean.
This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
