A metal detail set for modelers, not a kit. It holds a turned 88 mm barrel 56 calibers long in the two-piece form used on the later versions of the German dual-purpose gun. The metal barrel has a drilled muzzle, an accurate profile and a surface free of mold seams, so there is no need to fill the lengthwise seam of the plastic part. It is made by the Polish company Aber, which specializes in turned barrels and photo-etched detail for military models.
The 88 mm gun was one of the best-known German weapons of the Second World War. It started out as an anti-aircraft gun, but it was soon being used against ground and armored targets as well. The Flak 36 version introduced a sectional barrel made up of several pieces, so a worn section could be replaced on its own, which made field maintenance simpler. The Flak 37 differed mainly in its instruments and in the system that passed data from the fire-control station, while the barrel and the ballistics stayed the same. The weapon was towed on a two-axle carriage and fired either from its wheels or from the lowered cruciform platform.
Degrease the barrel with alcohol and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy. Do not sand the divisions of the barrel smooth – the joints between the sections are the characteristic mark of this version, and once painted they are worth picking out with a dark wash. Apply a primer for metal surfaces to the metal and only then the paint. Pick out the muzzle and the area around it with a fine dark pigment.
This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
