A printed paper accessory for a diorama from the production of ETA diorama for 1:35 scale. The sheet carries motifs of Greek magazines and comics, that is of the small printed matter that makes an interior lived in on a diorama: a table, a shelf, the seat of a vehicle, the floor of an abandoned room. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal.
These very small things are what separates a model from a scene. An empty table looks like a piece of plastic; a table with a magazine spread open on it tells you that somebody was sitting here a moment ago. The magazines can be used flat, propped against a wall, rolled up in a figure's hand or scattered about the floor. In a scene the rule is that less is more: three to five pieces of printed matter placed with thought work better than a surface flooded with paper.
The cutouts are very small at this scale, so work with a new sharp edge and tweezers. For the impression of thickness, glue two or three cutouts on top of one another or insert a strip of thin paper between the covers. An open magazine is made by folding over the edge of a rule; then round the corners off lightly and bend them, so that they are not as sharp as freshly printed. For believability it helps to suggest the pages along the side of a closed block with a thin pencil line. It is glued with PVA glue or with a small drop of glue for paper; super glue soaks through the paper and makes a glossy stain. Before gluing, consider how the printed matter will lie – slight buckling looks more natural than a perfectly flat surface. It is a good idea to go over the white edges of the cut, so that they do not glare in a close-up shot.
The accessory is supplied as a printed sheet. Glue, paints and clear coats are not included in the package.
