A photo-etched accessory set for a model of the Tiger II heavy tank with the so-called Porsche turret, 1:35 scale, from the Czech maker Eduard. It is not a kit of the tank — it is a set of fine metal parts for improving it.

This item is not a model of the tank but a photo-etched accessory set for a plastic model of the German Tiger II heavy tank, commonly called the King Tiger, in the version with the so-called Porsche turret, in 1:35 scale. The maker is the Czech company Eduard from Obrnice near Most, whose photo-etched sets are among the best in the world. The parts are made by chemically etching thin sheet metal — they therefore reach a thinness and a sharpness that cannot be produced in injection-molded plastic. On a model of an armored vehicle these are typically the elements that in reality are made of thin sheet or mesh and that necessarily come out oversized in plastic.
Photo-etched sets of this kind replace and supplement the fine elements of the exterior of the vehicle. The exact extent of the fret differs between editions — in general these are parts that the basic kit either simplifies or does not hold at all. The set is tied to the version with the Porsche turret, that is to the variant with a different turret shape from that of the later production machines; this matters when buying, because the parts match precisely this version.
The Tiger II was the heaviest German tank in series production during the Second World War. The first machines built carried a turret with a curved front, for which the term Porsche turret became established in modeling practice; later production vehicles received a turret with a flat front, easier to make and without the risk of a round being deflected into the roof of the hull. It is precisely the difference between the two turrets that is the main distinguishing feature of the early and the later machines.
Cut the parts out on a hard surface with a sharp scalpel, and never tear them from the fret. Use a photo-etch bender or two steel blades for bending. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minimal amount with a needle. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a thin coat of primer. The sets are fitted at the stage when the vehicle is assembled but not yet painted — with parts that overlap plastic elements, the original plastic detail has to be cut away first and the area sanded smooth.
It is an accessory set, not a model. The basic kit of the tank, glue and paints are not included in the package.
