The Schnellboote were German fast torpedo boats of the Second World War, known to the Allies as E-boats. They belonged to the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Germany at the time, and operated above all in the coastal waters of northwestern Europe. Alongside combat service, parades and ceremonial occasions, at which walking-out dress was worn, were also part of the life of the crews. It is precisely such an officer that the figure represents.
It is a figure of a naval officer in 1:35 scale. Large kits of German fast attack craft come out in the same scale, as does the vast majority of models of ground equipment, so you can place the figure on the deck, on the bridge or on the quay beside a vehicle. On a model without crew the figure immediately lends a sense of the real size of the machine.
Before painting, wash the figure in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry perfectly; a degreased surface holds the base coat considerably better. Cut the excess material and the traces of manufacture off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder gently. Attach the small parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Build the dark uniform up from the base shade toward lightened edges of the folds, and the face and hands the other way round, from a middle skin tone with a thin dark wash into the shadows. Finish the buttons, the rank insignia and the peak of the cap with a thin brush right at the end.
It will be appreciated by modelers who build German naval equipment in 1:35 scale and want to lend the model scale and a story, and by builders of dioramas with a harbor setting. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
