An injection-molded plastic kit of the German heavy truck Mercedes-Benz L4500A with the 3.7 cm Flak 37 anti-aircraft gun mounted on the bed, in 1:35 scale from the maker Trumpeter. It is an improvised self-propelled anti-aircraft mount (Selbstfahrlafette), in which the bed of the truck serves as the firing platform of the gun. The package holds photo-etched parts and rubber (vinyl) tires; the cab is armored. The build suits moderately advanced as well as experienced modelers.
The 3.7 cm Flak 37 gun was among the widespread German anti-aircraft weapons of the Second World War and was used to protect units, airfields and columns against low-flying aircraft. To gain mobility, the German army mounted these guns on standard trucks as well. The Mercedes-Benz L4500 was a heavy truck which in this form received an armored cab and a protected front end with the radiator. The vehicle thus joined the load capacity and the range of a truck with the firepower of a light anti-aircraft gun.
Go by the logic of the build: first the chassis and the engine section, then the cab and the bed serving as the firing platform, and finally the assembly of the gun. Paint and weather the running gear and the underside of the chassis before you cover access to them by fitting the bed. Glue the plastic with a thin modeling cement, and for painting use an airbrush and a primer. The assembly of the gun is best painted separately. Work the outside up with a dark wash into the details, dust pigments on the chassis and fine scuffs for the realistic look of a vehicle in combat use.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
