Laser cut wooden boxes 003, 1:35 - an AK interactive accessory

An accessory for dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale. According to the name it holds five boxes, which are put together from parts cut precisely by laser from thin wood. It is not a model of a vehicle and not a kit, but a scenic element with which to complete a store, a loading ramp, the bed of a vehicle or a corner of a diorama. The number 003 denotes a particular form within the range.

An assembly where accuracy decides

Laser cut parts have true right angles and matching dimensions, so a box holds its shape by itself and needs no filling. That is precisely why it pays to assemble on a flat surface and to check the squareness until the glue sets; a box glued crooked shows immediately in 1:35 scale. If you are planning a stack, assemble all the pieces first and only then put them on top of one another, so that the edges sit on each other.

Building and painting tips

Break the parts out of the sheet, level the remains of the tabs with fine abrasive paper and free the surfaces of dust before gluing. They are glued with PVA wood glue or with thin cyanoacrylate glue. Wood is absorbent, so paint in several heavily thinned layers; a staining approach works well, where a thinned brown paint is allowed to run into the texture and the surplus is wiped away. Bring out the edges with a dry brush and dust the lower parts with pigments according to the setting of the diorama.
