An injection-molded plastic kit of the M163 VADS self-propelled anti-aircraft system in 1:35 scale from Italeri. The set captures the characteristic tracked hull derived from the carrier of the M113 series, with a rotating turret carrying a rotary cannon and a radar and optical sighting module. The package holds parts of the hull, the running gear, the turret and the barrels; the decals make it possible to finish the vehicle in period markings.
The M163 VADS, for Vulcan Air Defense System, was an American self-propelled anti-aircraft system of the Cold War. It was based on the light tracked M113 carrier, and its main weapon was a six-barrel 20 mm rotary cannon derived from the Vulcan. It served to defend against low-flying targets and to give fire support to ground units.
Use thin cement for plastic and clean the flash off the parts. Finish and paint the running gear and the interior of the hull before closing the parts up. We recommend a primer, an airbrush and then washes and pigments for mud and dust effects. Leave the fine parts of the turret and the barrels until last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
