An accessory for painting, not a model. The templates mark out the rubber tire band of the road wheel, so you make the border between rubber and metal by spraying. The set is cut for the Takom kits. Distinguishing by the target kit is no formality here — separate masks are cut for different moldings of the same tank and they are not interchangeable with one another.
The M47 rides on torsion bars with six road wheels on each side, supplemented by return rollers. The peculiarity you must not overlook when masking is the rear idler wheel: on this design it has practically the same diameter as the road wheels and sits right down on the ground, so it looks like a seventh wheel in the row. Count on only six wheels per side and you will be left with an unpainted pair at the end. The running gear is also covered only by upper fenders, so it is visible in full from the side — unlike machines with full side skirts, no mistake disappears here. The wheels have a flat rim and a wide unbroken tire band, exactly the type of surface on which an uneven hand-drawn line is visible at first glance.
Twelve road wheels plus the idler wheels is roughly an hour and a half of concentrated work with a brush, usually with several repairs. The templates shrink that time to a fraction and, above all, give you a repeatable result — the same on the left side as on the right. It pays off everywhere the running gear stays visible, that is, on practically every display model with an exposed chassis. You can reasonably do without the set in two cases only: when the model is bound for a field diorama where the wheels will sink into mud or dust, and when you are building quickly and accept that the tire bands will be merely suggested.
This is an accessory for modelers, not a model. Paints, the kit and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
