The M1000 is an American heavy semi-trailer meant for carrying armored vehicles by road. It is used in combination with a heavy tractor and its main task is to get a tank to the battlefield without wearing out its own running gear. From the modeler's point of view the semi-trailer is above all an enormous flat surface with ramps, gratings, eyes and securing fittings, together with an exceptionally broken-up running gear with many axles.
It is on vehicle transporters that photo-etched parts are most useful of all. The load bed, the walkways and the ramps are in reality made up of thin perforated or chequered sheet, which cannot be made from plastic. The photo-etched version has real openings you can see through and edges of a sensible thickness. On large flat parts take care that they seat over their whole area. Apply thin cyanoacrylate in spots around the perimeter and press the part down with something flat rather than with a finger until the glue grabs. A bulging non-skid plate cannot be hidden on a finished model.
Cut the parts out with a scalpel on glass, and make the bends in a bending tool or between razor blades in one stroke. Before painting, degrease the photo-etched parts and cover them with a primer for metal. Spray perforated surfaces thinly and rather from a greater distance, otherwise the openings will fill with paint and the effect will disappear. The load bed of a transporter will take heavy weathering, dust, track marks and oil stains.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, which it does not include. The glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
