1:35 Paint mask T-34/85

T-34/85 1:35 masking stencils (SX-Art)

A set of masking stencils for a model of the T-34/85 medium tank in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer SX-Art. It is not a kit and not decals but an accessory for painting. The stencils are applied to a model that is already painted and cured and serve as a pattern for spraying a camouflage scheme or tactical markings. With this type in particular, sprayed markings come in useful, because they are often placed on welded seams and on the broken surfaces of the turret, where a decal does not hold well.

The real subject

The T-34/85 was a Soviet medium tank of the Second World War, that is, the version of the original T-34 type with a larger three-man turret and an 85 mm gun. The design built on the sloped armor of the hull and on wide tracks. The model is one of the most frequently built tanks of all, so a set of stencils has broad use across kits from various manufacturers.

How the stencils are used

• The base paint must be fully cured, not merely dry to the touch
• Degrease the surface and rid it of dust, so that the edge of the stencil seats
• On the rounded turret press the stencil down gradually from the middle, or warm it slightly
• Spray at a right angle, at a lower pressure and in several thin coats
• Take the stencil off soon after the paint has set, pulling at a sharp angle
• Unify the pattern with varnish, and only then apply washes, dust and chipping

Who the set is for

• Modelers of ground vehicles in 1:35 scale
• Those who want to spray markings instead of sticking decals on
• Builders who build several versions of the same type and want a uniform look to the markings
• Those interested in Soviet armored vehicles of the Second World War

The set contains the masking stencils alone. A model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
