An accessory for building dioramas, not a vehicle kit. The theme consists of a desktop computer together with a monitor with a classic vacuum tube, that is, the deep boxy type used before flat panels replaced it. In 1:35 scale it is a small but instantly readable item.
A tube monitor is a strong period marker: it sets a scene in the years when such equipment was commonplace and reliably distinguishes an older office, control room or post from present-day equipment with flat displays. That is precisely why it pays not to mix it in one view with accessories belonging to another decade. Place the set on the desk so that the monitor faces the seat, and leave the computer case under the desk or beside it. It helps a great deal to suggest the cabling with thin soft wire: the link between the monitor and the case and a lead running to the wall give a scene the lived-in quality that boxy shapes alone do not have. Then all the desk needs is some papers, a mug or a headset and the interior comes alive.
Once cleaned and degreased, lay down a primer appropriate to the material of the parts. The cases of old computing equipment tended to be in light cream and grayish shades, which can easily be aged with a yellowish filter, a fine wash in the grooves and a slight sheen on the places most often touched. Treat the face of the screen as glass: a dark base, a smooth gloss varnish and, if you like, a faint light streak to suggest a reflection. Pick out the ventilation grilles and the gaps with a thin line of a dark shade.
This is an accessory for dioramas, not a model in its own right. Paints, glue, figures and the base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
