The set falls into the category of figures in 1:35 scale and is the most complete of the whole range of farm motifs from MAiM: according to the name it includes the pigsty itself, four pigs and a figure of a farmer. You therefore get a finished little scene which only has to be set into terrain — the animals, the person and the structure are matched to one another, so you do not have to put elements from different manufacturers together and deal with differences in proportion.
Farm animals and civilian figures are among the most rewarding accessories of a diorama. They bring action and scale into a scene: a viewer recognizes the size of the surrounding equipment at once and the scene stops looking like a display case. The motif of a farm with a sty works in a village setting of any era, from an interwar village to the present day, and it combines well both with civilian vignettes and with equipment standing in a yard.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry — on small castings that decides how well the paint adheres. Make the joints with super glue, and with plastic parts ordinary modeling cement. Paint the pigs in a pinkish flesh shade as a base, add a thin brown wash into the folds of the skin and pick the backs out gently with a dry brush; make the mottling with thinned patches rather than sharp transitions. Mud on the legs and bellies of the animals and on the bottom of the sty unifies the animals with the structure. Paint the figure of the farmer separately and cement it only once it is finished, as the face and the hands are then easier to reach.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
