This is neither a kit nor a model in its own right. It is a masking sheet, that is an accessory used while painting an already built model of the Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank in the Ausf. G and Ausf. H versions in 1:35 scale. The masks are stuck onto the places that are to stay in the previous shade, and the next coat is sprayed over them.

The real subject

The Pz.Kpfw. IV was a German medium tank of the Second World War, built in progressively modified versions. The Ausf. G and Ausf. H belong to the later production batches, in which the strengthening of the armor protection and the longer 75 mm gun were addressed. In modeling practice vehicles of these versions are often built with the side armor plates and with a bold finish on the hull and the turret.

Usage tips

• Stick the masks onto a completely dry and degreased surface, or they may take the paint with them when they are removed.
• Press the edge of the mask down properly, ideally with a blunt tool. Paint seeping under it is the most common cause of a failed transition.
• Spray in thin coats. A heavy coat at the edge of a mask creates a step that is visible once it is removed.
• Remove the mask while the paint is freshly dry, and at a sharp angle back over itself rather than perpendicular to the surface.
• Plan the order of the shades in advance; working from lighter to darker is usually easier.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers building the Pz.Kpfw. IV in the Ausf. G or Ausf. H version in 1:35 scale who want their spraying crisp and repeatable, without laboriously cutting masks out of tape. A built model sprayed with a primer is assumed, as the sheet has no use on its own without a model.
