An extensive detail set in 1:35 from the Polish firm Aber, which is among the world leaders in photo-etched accessories for military vehicles. It is not a model of a tank: it is a collection of parts with which a plastic model of the Panther medium tank in the Ausf.D and Ausf.A versions is moved to the level of a competition build. The sets designated as complete are among the richest this manufacturer makes: they combine photo-etched sheet with other metal parts and deal with the whole model, not just one detail.
The Pz.Kpfw. V Panther was a German medium tank deployed from 1943. It combined sloped armor, a long gun barrel of 7.5 cm caliber and interleaved road wheels, which gave good ground pressure but complicated maintenance. The Ausf.D version was the first production one and you will know it by the side hatch in the turret and the early shape of the commander's cupola; the Ausf.A replaced it with a reworked cupola and a machine gun mount in the frontal armor. It is precisely these early versions that have a number of fine details which cannot be captured in injected plastic.
Bend the photo-etch in a bending tool or between two blades, never with your fingers. Fit the fenders and the tools only once the hull is together, so that they are not damaged. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer for metal. On the Panther it pays to finish the running gear and the interior before you close the hull up. For weathering, use a dark wash into the recesses and dust pigments on the running gear and the bottom of the hull.
This is an accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
