An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank in the model 1942 version with a cast turret, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. Unlike the version with a welded turret, this model carries the rounded cast turret in its lightened form, in which the walls were thinned while the lower collar and the area around the rear machine gun were strengthened instead. The model has a 76.2 mm gun and a hull with running gear; the exact numbers of parts and schemes differ between editions.
The KV-1 was a Soviet heavy tank of the beginning of the Second World War, named after Kliment Voroshilov and famous for its strong armor. On the model 1942 version several turret shapes were produced in different factories at once: welded from plates, heavy cast and the so-called lightened cast turret. It was precisely this lightened cast turret that came about through a change in which the upper and rear areas were thinned and the lower collar, a weak point on the earlier castings, was strengthened. The tank remained armed with a 76.2 mm gun.
First assemble the running gear, the wheels and the tracks while the hull is still accessible; the tracks tend to be split into links, so count on longer cleaning up and possible marks from the sprue gates. Apply a primer and then the base dark green. A cast turret is rewarding for emphasizing the rough texture of the casting: suggest it lightly with a textured coat or by stippling and then pick out the edges with a dry brush. Underline the panel lines with a wash and complete the lower areas and the running gear with dust and mud pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
