A set of replacement road wheels from the Hungarian maker SBS Model for a model of the Tiger II heavy tank in 1:35 scale. The precisely cast resin parts offer sharper and more consistent detail than the multi-part wheels of ordinary kits and spare the builder the wearisome cleaning up of parting seams on every single wheel.
The Tiger II (Sd.Kfz. 182), also known as the Konigstiger, was the heaviest German tank in series production during the Second World War, armed with an 88 mm gun. Its running gear was made up of massive interleaved steel road wheels that were internally sprung - a prominent feature that draws the eye on a model as much as the turret does.
Wash the castings to remove the mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and sand the mating surfaces flat. Fit the wheels onto their stub axles dry and check the alignment of the whole row, and only then glue them with super glue. Use respiratory protection while sanding resin; washes and pigments will complete the patina. Painting is made easier by a wire holder pushed into what is left of the casting block; the steel rim of the wheels comes out well after a dark wash in the recesses.
