A set of turned metal barrels in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. It represents the barrels of the German 55 mm Rheinmetall Gerät 58 anti-aircraft cannon and is intended for models of the anti-aircraft vehicle on the E-50 chassis. It is not a model of a vehicle but a detail accessory: the metal barrels replace the plastic parts and bring an exact profile, true alignment and a hollow muzzle.
The Gerät 58 was a 55 mm anti-aircraft cannon developed by the Rheinmetall firm at the very end of the Second World War as a more capable replacement for the small-caliber anti-aircraft weapons in use so far. Its installation in a closed turret on the chassis of vehicles of the Entwicklung series was considered, that is, a typical anti-aircraft tank of the late generation. Neither the weapon nor the whole mount reached series production; it stayed at the prototype and project stage, which makes the subject a popular one for modeling builds.
Cut off the plastic barrel at the root, clean out the opening in the mantlet or the shield and push the metal part home. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and roughen the mating surfaces lightly; it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay a base coat meant for metals onto the metal parts, or the paint will hold poorly. The hollow muzzle stands out when you darken it lightly from inside with a soot shade. On a multi-barreled installation it is crucial that all the barrels point in exactly the same direction: fix them in place dry, check by looking from the front and from above, and only then secure the joint.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
