The real subject

The BMPT Object 199, known under the designation Ramka, is a Russian tank support fighting vehicle built on the chassis of a main battle tank. It grew out of combat experience showing that in built-up and broken terrain a tank needs an escort able to suppress infantry with anti-tank weapons quickly. The turret therefore carries a pair of autocannons, a pair of 30 mm AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers and anti-tank guided missiles. The heavily armored chassis can at the same time take the same hits as the tank the vehicle advances with.

What the set contains

This is a set of turned metal barrels for a model of this vehicle in 1:35 scale. According to the name it contains a pair of cannon barrels and a pair of barrels for the AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers. A metal barrel has an accurate circular cross section and a thin drilled muzzle, which are precisely the details a plastic part in this scale lacks. On top of that it does not sag, and sanding and polishing are done away with.

Tips for fitting them

Cut the original part off square and level the surface, so that the new barrel sits on the axis. Drill the hole for the spigot in stages, from a smaller drill to the target diameter, otherwise the thin wall will split. Wash and degrease the metal before painting and give it a coat of primer; without one the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Attach it with cyanoacrylate or two-part glue and align the barrel in the vertical as well as the horizontal plane before it cures.
