This is a photo-etched detail set for a plastic model, not a kit of the tank. The brass parts replace those plastic features of the vehicle that in reality take the form of thin sheet. Voyager Model is a Chinese manufacturer of photo-etched aftermarket sets for military subjects in 1:35 scale. The set is designed for the particular X-Act XS35001 kit, so on another kit it need not fit.
The T-80U is an upgraded version of the Soviet and later Russian T-80 main battle tank. Characteristic are the gas turbine drive, a 125 mm gun with an autoloader and extensive reactive armor. The vehicle is completed by a series of thin sheet-metal features: side skirts, fenders, covers and the mesh over the engine compartment. On an ordinary kit these parts are, for production reasons, several times thicker than reality would call for in 1:35 scale.
Injection-molded plastic has a technological minimum thickness that cannot be kept to on thin sheet in 1:35 scale. A skirt of a few millimeters in reality should be hundredths of a millimeter on a model, but a plastic part is usually tenths. The difference is apparent at first glance, above all on the edges when seen from the side. Photo-etched parts solve exactly that: brass sheet is an order thinner, the edge stays crisp and the part can also be bent into a real shape. With mesh the advantage is greater still, because light passes through photo-etched parts and the openings are real rather than merely suggested by engraving.
The set holds photo-etched parts, not a plastic kit. The glue, paints, tools and the base model are not included in the package.
