An injection-molded plastic kit of the American super heavy tracked fighting vehicle T28 in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Dragon. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the particular contents of the package, the number of sprues and any extra parts are given in the enclosed instructions. Given the dimensions of the real subject, this model is one of the larger pieces even in 1:35 scale and it will call for a matching amount of room in a display case.
The T28, later redesignated as the 105 mm Gun Motor Carriage T95, was an American project from the end of the Second World War, intended for breaking through heavily fortified belts. It differed from ordinary tanks in several design features at once: it had very thick frontal armor, a 105 mm gun mounted in a fixed superstructure with no rotating turret, and four track units instead of the usual two. The outer pair of track units could be detached for movement on roads, as otherwise the vehicle would have been too wide. It was built in prototypes only, it never reached combat and the project was ended after the war; one of the vehicles survives and is on display in a museum.
Work from the bottom up: assemble and paint the running gear and the inner track units before the outer covers and the detachable part of the running gear go onto the model, because once they are closed up you cannot get to them. Cut the parts off the sprues with sprue cutters and level the remains of the gates with a scalpel rather than with pliers, so that the plastic is not crushed. Use thin cement for plastic applied into the joints with a brush. Spray the whole model with primer before painting, because it evens the surface out and reveals imperfect joins. The large flat areas of armor are rewarding for shade modulation, dark washes afterward bring out the rivets and welds, and pigments on the running gear add dust and mud effects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
