The set catches the American M18 recoilless rifle of 57 mm caliber in 1:35 scale. It is an accessory, not a vehicle kit in its own right. The parts are cast in resin and intended to complete figures, to be set into a diorama or to fit out a kit of a vehicle on which the weapon was carried.
Recoilless rifles deal with the recoil by venting gases to the rear, so they can be an order of magnitude lighter than a conventional gun of comparable caliber. The American M18 type of 57 mm caliber was adopted at the end of the Second World War as an infantry support weapon, worked by a small crew and able to be carried off the roads. It was fired either from the shoulder or from a light mount, and in the second line the weapon was often carried on light vehicles. It was used against fortified positions and lightly armored targets and stayed in service in the postwar years as well.
Wash the resin castings in warm soapy water, so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw rather than breaking them, and level the surfaces with a file while protecting your airways. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a base coat before painting. The metal of the barrel tends to be darker than the body of a vehicle, and a dark steel color with a fine polishing with graphite on the edges works well. The weapon fits into a scene better when you even it out lightly with dust and mud matching the rest of the diorama.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and figures are not included in the package.
