German kitchen tableware in 1:35 scale: resin castings with a decal, photo-etched parts and wire for small fittings.

Kitchen utensils from the time of the Second World War looked different in German homes than at a military kitchen. At home it was enameled pots with a light interior and a dark rim, stoneware bowls, tin jugs and enameled colanders that ruled, that is, things that lasted decades and were handed down. A military kitchen, by contrast, was built on large-volume cauldrons and uniform shapes. A set of this type will therefore serve best for the interior of a requisitioned house, a tavern or a farm where soldiers were billeted.
As it dragged on, aluminum and brass disappeared from households, because non-ferrous metals went into armament production. Metal collections took even door handles and tableware, so substitutes made of pressed sheet metal and ceramics appeared. Anyone building a scene from the end of the war can suggest this with worn, repaired and mismatched equipment instead of a set from one piece.
Enamel has a smooth, hard sheen that flat paint cannot give. Lay down the covering shade, varnish over it with a gloss varnish and only then add the chipped spots: small dark marks with a thin light rim, concentrated on the rims and edges. The inside of pots tends to be sooty, and the bottoms then dark from the stove.
The photo-etched fret carries flat things such as handles and gratings, and the wire stands in for the handles of jugs. The decal makes it possible to suggest the decoration on the stoneware, which would be hard to paint with a brush at this reduction. The small pieces are best painted while still on the casting block and separated only just before being set into the interior.
