This item is an accessory, not a kit. It holds photo-etched brass parts from Voyager Model in 1:35 scale, which are fitted to the separately sold Amusing Hobby 35A014 plastic kit. The Bär, meaning bear, was a German project for a heavy self-propelled mortar from the period of the Second World War. It reckoned with a weapon of 305 mm caliber mounted in a massive fixed superstructure on a chassis derived from a heavy tank, with a very high weight and only limited mobility. The proposal stayed at the documentation stage and no machine was built. Kits of this type therefore depict the project form, which gives modelers a freer hand in the choice of finish and setting.
Photo-etched parts are painted differently from plastic. The relief on brass is a few hundredths of a millimeter deep, so one heavy coat of paint floods it and all that is left of an expensive set is a smooth surface. So spray in very thin passes with an airbrush and let them dry between coats; the covering shade builds up from several coats with no loss of texture. A primer belongs on metal before the paint, otherwise the surface rubs during handling. Choose a shade slightly lighter than on plastic, because thin edges cast sharp shadows and the surface then comes across darker than it really is. Do the final weathering gently, by contrast, because brass does not absorb the way plastic does.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, which it does not include. The glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
