About product

Basic photo-etched set Tiger I, early Tunisian Initial version, 1:35 (E.T. Model)

A photo-etched metal set in the basic range, intended for refining the detail of a plastic model of the German Tiger I heavy tank in its early series version, in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle, but an aftermarket accessory. The basic set covers the main group of details for the hull and the turret, typically the fenders and their stiffeners, the grilles, the covers, the loops, the clamps and the tool brackets. The exact scope of the package follows the manufacturer's instructions.

The real subject

The Tiger I was a German heavy tank with an 88 mm gun and with thick armor set at right angles. At the time it was committed to action it was a machine that was very hard to destroy, at the price of high weight and demanding maintenance. The early series version differs from the later machines in many details, for example the cylindrical commander's cupola with vision slits, the additional air intake filters at the rear, the arrangement of the headlights and other items that gradually disappeared as production was simplified. The designation in the name refers to the machines committed in North Africa, where the early versions served.

Tips for working with photo-etched parts

Cut the parts out with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, never break them out, and level the remains of the tags with a fine file. Make the folds along the marked score lines, ideally in a photo-etch bender. They are glued with thin cyanoacrylate, and on large parts a slow-setting epoxy gives time for exact positioning. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a primer. If you are building a machine in an African setting, plan for heavy dusting with light pigments, as fine metal details pick dust up very convincingly and a wash then brings out the sharp edges of the photo-etched parts.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of German heavy Second World War vehicles
  • Modelers who want to capture the early version of the machine accurately
  • More experienced modelers with experience of working with metal
  • Dioramas and display builds, where the model is seen close up

This is an accessory photo-etched set. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

The early series version, which differs from the later machines in a number of details. You will find the exact assignment of the parts in the manufacturer's instructions.

No. The package holds photo-etched metal parts only. The plastic model of the tank has to be obtained separately.

With thin cyanoacrylate, which wicks into the joint by capillary action. On large parts a slow-setting two-part epoxy is safer.

Yes. Degrease it and lay down a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface and rubs off during handling.
