Eduard 1:350 CVN-65 Enterprise pt.5 is a photo-etched set for detailing a model of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in 1:350 scale. It is the fifth part of a multi-part series of accessories, not a model of the ship.

This is an accessory photo-etched set, not a model of the ship. The Czech manufacturer Eduard split the detailing of the aircraft carrier CVN-65 Enterprise in 1:350 scale into several separately sold parts, and this is the fifth of them. Each part deals with different areas of the model, so they can be bought gradually as the build goes along and according to how much detail you want. The plastic kit is not included in the package.
On ships in 1:350 scale most of the visual impression is made by fine structures that cannot be molded into plastic at all: railings, nets, ladders, platforms, radar antennas and girders. Injection-molded substitutes are necessarily many times thicker than the real thing. A metal etching is thin and see-through, so the silhouette of the ship suddenly matches the real vessel. On an extensive model such as an aircraft carrier it is long work, though: count on tens of hours and on the railings being installed only after the deck has been painted.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and long strips of railing always along their whole length at once. Make the bends in an etching bender; on long parts the straightness of the edge is crucial, otherwise any waviness will show along the whole deck. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue in small drops, which you apply with a pin and not straight from the bottle. Degrease the metal and go over it with a base coat, otherwise the paint will come off at the first touch. Work section by section and protect the finished stretches, as railings once fitted are wretched to repair.
The set is an accessory for a kit, which it does not contain. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
