Twelve turned metal barrels for the Japanese naval anti-aircraft guns of 127 millimeter caliber Type 89 in 1:350 scale, the Short form.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of twelve turned metal barrels for the Japanese naval anti-aircraft guns of 127 millimeter caliber Type 89 in 1:350 scale. The way of making them shows in the part itself: the barrel is machined on a lathe, so it has a straight axis and a regular circular cross-section along its whole length. The word Short in the name sets this form apart within the range, which also holds a longer variant under another designation. Compare the two, therefore.
Because of the mold, a plastic barrel in 1:350 scale has to be thicker than reality would call for, and it carries flash from manufacture that sands badly on such a small part. A metal replacement has a thin muzzle, a sharp outline and does not bend during handling. On a ship that has whole batteries of such guns the difference adds up into the overall impression of the superstructure.
It will be appreciated by builders of Japanese ships of the Second World War who are finishing off the armament of the superstructure. The Type 89 gun of 127 millimeter caliber was the standard heavy anti-aircraft weapon of the Imperial Japanese Navy and was most often fitted in twin mounts, so twelve barrels will cover a substantial part of the armament of one ship.
A set of twelve barrels is supplied. The ship model, the mounts, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
