A large plastic kit of the Japanese destroyer Yukikaze from the manufacturer Fujimi in 1:350 scale. Yukikaze is the most famous ship of the Kagero class and one of the best known ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy of all — among modelers she is one of the most popular subjects. The large scale lets the torpedo tubes, the gun turrets and the intricate superstructures stand out.
Yukikaze, completed in 1940, earned the reputation of an unsinkable ship: she went through practically all the major operations in the Pacific — from Java through Midway, Guadalcanal and the Philippine Sea to escorting the battleship Yamato on her last voyage in April 1945 — and came through the war as the only one of the nineteen destroyers of her class still in serviceable condition. After the war she was handed over to the Republic of China, where she served under the name Tan Yang until the end of the 1960s.
Spray the hull in Imperial Japanese Navy gray and separate the boundary of the waterline with masking tape. A fine dark wash will bring out the anchor chains, the vents and the detail of the turrets. The model will be lifted further by photo-etched railings; showing the ship with light weathering after long service is striking too.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
