This item is a detailing accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. The resin wheels are intended to replace the plastic landing gear parts in a model of the Boeing B-17 bomber in 1:48 scale. This is the variant with a covered hub, that is with a closed hub face. Resin castings tend to have a sharper rendering of the tread and a cleaner transition from the tire to the hub than plastic parts, and they are usually cast with the flattening under load suggested, which gives a model on its gear a natural stance.
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is an American four-engine bomber of the Second World War period. The main landing gear wheels carried the whole weight of the machine, and on both surviving and period aircraft they appear in several hub standards according to the tire maker and the production batch. The choice between a covered and an uncovered hub is therefore one of the details that decide how faithful the result is when a particular aircraft is built.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting block off with a saw, do not break it off, and finish the surface wet. Glue with superglue or epoxy – cement for plastic will not join resin. It is practical to paint the hub separately from the tire; a circular mask or careful brushwork will serve to separate the two colors. Rich gray-black shades with a light dusting suit the tire, as a uniform black looks unnatural on a model. When gluing, turn the flattening under load toward the ground.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
