This item is not a kit or a photo-etched set but a decal sheet for the model of the SU-122 self-propelled gun in 1:48 scale. It concentrates on the markings of captured machines, that is, of vehicles of Soviet manufacture that the German side later used and re-marked according to its own regulations. The decals go onto a finished, painted model and add well-balanced markings to it.
The SU-122 was a Soviet self-propelled gun on the chassis of the T-34 medium tank, armed with a 122 mm howitzer in a casemate superstructure without a rotating turret. Captured vehicles routinely entered service with the enemy in the Second World War; captured machines were re-marked conspicuously so that they would not be mistaken for the vehicles of their original owner. For a modeler that means an unusual combination: the Soviet shape of the hull and markings other than those normally tied to the subject.
A decal only holds on a smooth base. Varnish the area where the marking will go with a gloss varnish compatible with the paint you used and let it cure properly. Cut the decal out close to the design, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds only and let it rest on paper until the carrier film releases by itself. Transfer it to the model with a damp brush, line it up and blot off the excess water. On a broken surface a decal softener helps; over rivets and edges it is sometimes enough to pierce the film carefully with the tip of a scalpel and apply a second dose of softener. Finally seal everything with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, which visually hides the edge of the film, and only then go on to the weathering.
This is an accessory for a model. The base kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package.
