When Bf 109s of the F version appeared over the English Channel, British pilots had their hands full. The new airframe flew more responsively, climbed faster and behaved better in a turn than the earlier Emil. Some airmen still complained about the loss of firepower, because the wing cannons had gone and everything was concentrated in the axis of the fuselage. The F-2 sub-version served with units in the west and in the south of Europe and accompanied them up to the opening of the campaign in the east.
The crosses on the fuselage and the wings are among the most conspicuous elements of the whole scheme. A decal applied to them gives away the edge of its carrier film as soon as the model is given a matte coat. A cut shape does not have that problem, because the paint lies directly on the surface and covers even the riveting underneath. The package offers two sets of shapes, so there is room for a correction if the first attempt does not come off.
The shapes hold even on curved glass, but the edges need to be pressed down with a toothpick or a wooden stick. The inner circles of the insignia are placed according to the outline of the outer part, which saves measuring.
