Masking set for the Messerschmitt Bf 109F in 1:48 scale. It masks the cockpit canopy from the outer face and adds two sets of stencils for the national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Friedrich is the aerodynamically cleanest form of the Bf 109: rounded wingtips, tail surfaces without struts, smooth radiator covers. It served in 1941 and 1942 from the Channel to North Africa and for many modelers it is the handsomest version of the whole family. Its canopy framing, though, is angular and denser than on the later Gustavs, so it masks wretchedly by hand.
The essential difference from the fuller sets. Here only the outer face of the glazing is cut. That decides who the set suits. Anyone gluing the canopy closed needs nothing more. Anyone wanting the cockpit open with the sliding part seated at the rear will be touching the inner face of the frame in with a brush, and that has to be reckoned with in advance.
What that means for the contents. One face of the glazing is covered instead of two. The national insignia are not skimped on, though: there are two stencils.
Who it is for. For a builder with an ordinary Friedrich kit who is making a model with the cockpit closed and wants crisp edges with no measuring. The difficulty is low; it is only a good idea to lift the film before the last coat of finish has fully hardened.
The small thing that decides. The clear parts of the Bf 109 tend to be thin and are easily scratched. Before you lay anything on them, rinse them in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry on a paper towel; grease from your fingers is the most common reason why paint bleeds under the edge.
