A set of masks for the glazing and the national insignia for a 1:48 Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6, complemented by turned metal barrels for both cowling machine guns and a replacement Pitot sensor. Put together for the Hasegawa kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The sixth production version of the Messerschmitt was built in greater numbers than any other variant. From 1943 the light cowling machine guns of 7.92 mm caliber were replaced by heavier thirteen-millimeter MG 131, whose breeches no longer fitted under the smooth engine cowling. Two prominent bulges therefore grew above them, which got the nickname Beule among the crews and became the recognition sign of the whole line.
An injected part always comes out of the mold blind. The muzzle of the weapon on it is only a shallow recess, sometimes even a flat face, and a modeler usually just paints it black. A brass tube, by contrast, is turned with a bore running through its whole length, so the dark opening is a real opening and changes with the angle of view. At a caliber of thirteen millimeters the bore works out in the chosen scale at just under three tenths of a millimeter, and drilling it into styrene by hand so that the bit does not run to the side practically never succeeds.
The masks are cut from self-adhesive film, follow the shape of the framing and after spraying they peel off without adhesive residue. The metal parts are fitted onto the shortened plastic stub, so nothing has to be cut blind. The finished model then differs in a detail the viewer has exactly in his line of sight when he looks at the aircraft from the front: a pair of dark openings above the engine instead of two gray projections. It is a small thing taking a few minutes of work, but it is among the first things somebody notices in a display case.
