A set of photo-etched seat belts from the Czech maker Eduard for the seats in the cargo compartment of the CH-47A transport helicopter, 1:48 scale. Belts are exactly the detail that cannot be made in plastic: in reality they are a thin strap with buckles, and any plastic casting looks disproportionately thick. Photo-etched sheet can also be bent and draped naturally, so the belts look loosely hanging rather than stuck to the seat. The plastic model is not included in the package.
The CH-47A has a long cargo compartment with a flat floor, along both sides of which there are folding seats for carried personnel. Each seat has its own belts, and it is a space that is clearly visible on a model through the open side door section and the lowered rear ramp. Unlike the pilots' cockpit, where the detail hides under the canopy, on a well built model the cargo compartment stays practically entirely on show — which is why it is worth investing time in its fittings.
Cut the belts out with a scalpel and carefully straighten them on a smooth surface. Before you glue them on, bend them over a round tool or between your fingers so that they have a natural sag — a straight belt always looks unnatural. Degrease with alcohol and glue with gel cyanoacrylate, which gives time for positioning. If the belts are bare sheet, spray a primer for metals and only then the paint; with the colored form, merely even it out gently with a matte varnish. We recommend painting the seats and fitting them before you close the fuselage, otherwise it is hard to reach into the space later.
