Masking film for the glazing of the French Caudron C.714 light fighter in 1:48, arranged for outside and inside. It comes from the parts of the RS Model kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Caudron C.714 grew out of the idea that a cheap and light aircraft put together largely from wood would be quicker to build than metal fighters and would fill the thinning ranks. The Renault engine of around 500 horsepower was not enough for a full-blooded fight, though, the rate of climb was poor and the armament consisted of four machine guns in gondolas under the wing. Most of the machines went in the end to the Polish group that fought in France under the designation GC I/145, and a few examples made their way to Finland. History allotted it only a few weeks of combat, which makes it all the more interesting an item in a display case.
The cockpit of this aircraft is small and the frames are heavy against it, so an inaccuracy of a tenth of a millimeter is noticed at once on a finished model. A pre-cut shape removes that risk. The film also takes repeated lifting and reapplying well, until the exact position is found.
Anyone building the Polish color scheme will appreciate that the frames stay sharp once the mask is off and that the checkerboard can be applied over them. National insignia are not in this delivery, which concentrates on the glazing exclusively. The model itself and the paints remain the builder's choice. Work on the glazing thus drops from an evening of fiddling to a few minutes.
