About product

Masking set for the glazing of a D.H. Vampire in 1:48 scale

A die-cut masking set from the brand Omask for a model of the de Havilland Vampire jet aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a part of the aircraft but a working accessory with which the canopy glazing is covered during painting. The masks are die-cut to the shape of the framing of one particular kit, so check before buying that the set matches the model you are building.

The real subject

The de Havilland Vampire was a British single-engine first-generation jet aircraft that came about in the 1940s. Characteristic of it are the short fuselage nacelle with the pilot's compartment and the pair of tail booms carrying the horizontal tail surface. It is precisely the glazing above the short nose that gives the model a striking profile and is one of the first things judged on a finished piece, so cleanly masked frames are worth the trouble.

How to work with the masks

Peel the individual pieces off the backing sheet with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers and touch them with your fingers as little as possible, so that the adhesive layer does not lose its grip. Clean and degrease the clear part before applying them. Lay the mask down from one edge of the frame and press it on progressively; on the curves a toothpick will help. Close the edges carefully, otherwise the paint will creep underneath. Spray in several thin coats. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set but is not yet fully cured, and the edge will then stay sharp and will not tear.

Who the set is for

It suits anyone who does not want to cut the canopy frames out of masking tape by hand. It saves time and the result is uniform. Suitable for beginners and experienced modelers alike. The leftovers of the masks also come in handy for covering the glazing for the rest of the build, so that the clear part is not dusted and scratched.

It is not a model. Paints, the kit and glue are not included in the package. The number of pieces in the set and the material used are stated on the box.

FAQ

Do not count on it. The masks are die-cut to the framing of one particular kit, and on a model from another manufacturer the shape of the frames may differ.

No. It is a masking accessory for the build. The kit itself has to be bought separately.

As soon as the paint has set and stopped being tacky, but before it has fully cured. Taking it off late can tear the edge of the color coat.

The number of pieces in the set is stated on the box.
