The Yak-52 is a two-seat trainer and aerobatic aircraft with a radial piston engine. Pupil and instructor sit in tandem, the landing gear is of the nosewheel type and the wheels stay partly exposed when retracted, which is a recognition feature of the type. It was flown above all on pilot training and in aerobatics, and the machine has not disappeared from the clubs to this day, so it can still be seen at air shows. For a modeler it is a rewarding type: the color schemes tend to be bold and a decal sheet does more on a finished model than it does on many a combat aircraft.
The decals are intended for 1:48 scale and the scheme is listed under the name Vári Gyula. According to the marking the sheet also holds Hungarian military national insignia, so it comes in useful when you are building another machine in Hungarian colors too and the insignia on the sheet in the kit are missing or do not match in shade. The layout of the sheet and the extent of the lettering are given in the enclosed instructions.
Before you soak the sheet, check in the instructions whether it is a self-adhesive version. A self-adhesive film that has been soaked is ruined, whereas a wet decal can be soaked later. With a wet decal proceed as follows: varnish the area with gloss clear coat so that no silvery bubbles form under the film, soak the cut-out decal briefly in lukewarm water and let it rest until it releases from the backing. Slide it into place, press the water out with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges and on busy areas help it with a softener. Once dry, go over the area with semi-matte varnish so that the edges of the film disappear.
