A decal sheet in 1:48 scale from the maker Two Bobs. The package holds no construction parts — there are only decals in it, with which you mark a model of the electronic warfare aircraft built from a separately sold kit. The markings belong to squadron VAQ-130 with the nickname Zappers.
The EA-18G Growler is a two-seat carrier electronic warfare aircraft derived from the two-seat version of the Super Hornet. Instead of gun armament it carries equipment for jamming and for the suppression of air defenses; on its wingtips it has receiver pods that search out and locate sources of emission, and jamming pods are hung under the wing and the fuselage. The crew consists of a pilot and an electronic systems operator. The type replaced an older specialized aircraft in the same role and serves both from the decks of aircraft carriers and from land bases. VAQ-130 is one of the oldest units of the US Navy focused on electronic warfare.
With decals, their age and storage matter a great deal. If a sheet has lain in the light or in the warm for a long time, the carrier film may yellow and go brittle. Before you set to work, look at the sheet against the light and try some unimportant motif first. Yellowed film often clears if you leave the sheet for several days in daylight, though not in direct sunlight. A brittle decal can be saved by a thin coat of gloss clear sprayed over the whole sheet — it creates a new carrier film that holds the motif together. Once opened, store the sheet flat, in a dry place and out of the light.
