About product

New Ware 1:48 – masks for the exhaust nozzles of the F-15I

This is not a kit and not a resin part, but a set of self-adhesive masking templates in kabuki paper, intended for an F-15I model in 1:48 scale. Kabuki paper is thin, conforms well and sticks gently, so it follows even curved surfaces and leaves no residue on the finish when removed. The set deals with the most laborious part of painting the powerplant: separating the individual segments and rings of the nozzle, which on the real aircraft have different metal shades and different degrees of heat discoloration.

The real subject

The F-15I is the Israeli version of the two-seat multirole aircraft of the F-15E line. The power comes from a pair of jet engines with afterburners, whose exhaust nozzles are formed by an array of moving petals and shrouds with a variable cross-section. It is that construction that makes the nozzles visually the most complicated detail of the whole model — on the real machine light and darker metal tones alternate on them according to the heat load on the individual parts.

Usage tips

Apply the masks only onto a fully cured, degreased and smooth base. Lift the individual pieces with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, lay them on dry and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick — it is a perfectly seated edge that decides whether the transition comes out sharp. Spray the metal shades in several very thin layers, otherwise paint easily gets under the edge of the mask. Take the masks off while the paint is only dry to the touch, not fully cured.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want the nozzles painted exactly in separate shades without masking with tape by hand
  • Builders of modern jets in 1:48 scale
  • Those who work with an airbrush and metallic shades
  • Modelers who want to save time on the most tedious part of painting

The set contains only masking templates. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a mask set, that is an accessory for painting an already built F-15I model in 1:48 scale.

Kabuki paper — a thin self-adhesive material that follows curved surfaces well and leaves no adhesive residue on the finish when removed.

Onto fully cured, degreased and smooth paint. On a fresh or rough finish the masks will not seat and paint will creep under.

According to the name the set is aimed at the exhaust nozzles. Please check the exact scope of the package contents in the manufacturer's documentation.
