Masks for the late Hellcat carrier fighter in the F6F-5 version. The box holds masking of the glazing from the outer and the inner face and three sheets with stars in bars.
Responsibility details are not available.
The last large-series form of the carrier fighter differed from the earlier one in, among other things, what matters most to a modeler: the windscreen lost its separately inset flat armored pane and the armor moved inside. The ability to carry rockets and a pair of cannon in place of some of the machine guns was added, the engine cowling was simplified and the whole machine was given a uniform dark finish. In this form the Hellcat saw the war out and remained in service long afterwards.
Inside are two glazing masks, one for the outer and one for the inner face, and three sheets with stars in bars. The film is matte and has no rigid carrier, so it conforms even to a pronounced curve of the canopy.
The difference between the early and the late form of this type lies exactly where a mask works. Removing the inset armored pane changed both the number and the shape of the areas at the front of the cockpit, so a cut from the earlier set would fit here only roughly. In 1:48 such an imprecision is noticed at once, because an overlap of one bar by half its width is visible even without a magnifier. That is precisely why the manufacturer issues separate sets for the two versions and why it pays to confirm before buying which of them the kit being built depicts.
