A photo-etched detail set from the Polish maker Aber in 1:48 scale intended for the Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank in the Ausf. J version. It can also be used on related vehicles built on the same chassis — the late StuG IV assault gun and the Jagdpanzer IV Ausf. A tank destroyer. It is not a kit but an accessory to a plastic model you have already bought. The etched metal parts replace fittings that cannot be cast in plastic at a matching thickness.
The Ausf. J was the last and simplest production form of the Pz.Kpfw. IV. It came about to save production time and material: the electric turret traverse was dropped, the fuel capacity grew and a range of parts was simplified. The same chassis also served for the StuG IV assault gun and the Jagdpanzer IV tank destroyer, so accessories for the running gear and the hull superstructure often overlap between these types. At the end of the war the vehicles carried simplified equipment and improvised protective screens.
Take the photo-etched parts out with a scalpel on a hard mat and handle them with fine-tipped tweezers. Run the bends along the scored lines, ideally in a photo-etch bending tool. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue applied in the smallest possible amount — any excess will fill the fine relief. Leave mesh and grille fittings slightly bent so that they look used. Degrease the metal before painting, apply a primer for metal, then the base shade, a wash into the recesses and dusty pigments on the lower areas.
This is a detail accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
