The real subject

The Wildcat was the American carrier fighter with which the United States entered the war in the Pacific. The F4F-4 version received folding wings so that more aircraft would fit on a carrier, and an armament of six 12.7 mm machine guns. Over Guadalcanal, however, the Marine Corps machines flew from an island airfield and carried the main burden of the defense against Japanese raids. The Wildcat could not match the Japanese fighter in agility or in climb, but it was tough and took hits well, which allowed its pilots to stay in the air even against the odds.

Application

• Coat the area under the decal with gloss varnish; on a flat surface a white veil appears under the film.
• Cut the marking out close to the edge of the printing and leave it briefly in lukewarm water until it starts to slide on the backing.
• Slide the decal into place with a brush, blot the excess water away and press the film down with a soft cloth.
• Over panel lines and riveting, use a softener so that the film pulls down into the relief.
• Once dry, coat the model with varnish, which makes the edges of the film disappear.
