The Eduard 1:48 Ilyushin Il-2 Stormovik is a set of pre-cut masking stencils for a model in 1:48. It is an aid for painting, not a kit of the aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the Il-2 ground-attack aircraft in 1:48. The package holds self-adhesive stencils cut from kabuki tape, which are stuck onto the surfaces that are meant to stay free of paint after spraying. It is not a model and not a kit but a consumable accessory for painting.
The Il-2 was a single-engine ground-attack aircraft intended for attacks on ground targets. In design terms it is characterized by an armored shell into which the forward fuselage with the engine and the pilot's station was built. That carries over into a model: the front part of the glazing is massive in shape and the frames are wider than on an ordinary fighter, so the edge of a mask shows clearly in the result.
Masking is not a separate step but part of the spraying plan. Think out in advance which layers follow which: first the shade that is meant to show through under the mask, then the main surfaces and finally the details. Mask the transparent parts only after they have been glued in and the gaps filled, otherwise you will damage the mask by sanding. Before spraying, check against the light whether the tape is sitting flat everywhere; every air pocket at an edge means paint creeping under and a touch-up to do. Keep overspray off the surrounding surfaces by holding the gun at right angles to the surface and not spraying at an acute angle across the edge of the mask.
The package contains masking stencils only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
