This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard serves to mask the glazed surfaces of a model of the Junkers Ju 188 in 1:48. In Eduard's range the TFace designation means the double-sided variant, that is stencils for the outer and the inner side of the glazing. It is not a model of the aircraft and not a kit but an aid for painting. The stencils are cut from kabuki tape, a thin Japanese masking tape that conforms well to a curve, holds along the edge of the engraving and leaves no adhesive behind when removed.
The Ju 188 was a twin-engine combat aircraft with an extensively glazed nose whose glazing is divided by a dense network of frames. On a finished model you can see into the space behind the glass, so frames painted only from outside look unfinished: bare transparent plastic is left on the inside and the impression of real glazing falls apart. A double-sided set therefore deals with both sides of the part, which with a nose glazed like this is where it shows most.
Stick the inner stencils on and spray the frames from inside before you glue the cockpit into the fuselage; after that you cannot reach the inner side. Degrease the transparent parts before masking and let them dry completely. Press the tape down with a toothpick or a stick exactly to the edge of the engraving, otherwise the paint will creep under. Spray several thin coats rather than one heavy layer, and take the mask off as soon as the paint has set, not after several days, when the film tears.
The package contains masking stencils only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
